A winter wedding
Here are some images from the wedding in Pitlochry. Chrisann and Jamie were a great couple to photograph but the weather and time of year made this a difficult wedding to photograph. Beseiged with rain throughout the day it was a day of using artificial light sources to add some nice light to the images and finding nice indoor locations for couple and group shots. Thankfully all were patient and I feel I managed to get some nice images from the day.
Here are some of my favourites from the day that I have sorted through so far.
The First Dance
The part of the wedding I look forward to the most is the first dance the bride and groom have at their reception. This is the first time I really see them relax and may be the first time they have a chance to take in what has happened during the day.
Personally as the photographer I am trying hard to create something unique that captures that moment when they forget about what is around them. This involves working freely with a flashgun attached with cord to the camera trying to use the lights available to create a nice image then some post production in Photoshop to finish the image off. I dont worry too much about the technical aspects of these images as its all about mood for me.
Here are 3 I feel worked including one from last nights wedding in Pitlochry.
Chrisann and Jamie married in Pitlochry yesterday , reception at Atholl Palace.
Rhona and Callum at their reception at Murrayshall Hotel.

Lindsay and Bruce at their reception at Murrayshall Hotel.
Marketing myself again part 1 & 2
Most people who know me as a photographer within Perth tends to think os me as a sports/press photographer (the guy who takes images for the Tele). This is mainly because this is what I have done for the last few years. I used to cover weddings back in the 1990s and covered around 20 weddings as a part-time wedding photographer but the style of coverage most set out to achieve was very stuffy groups of people with no real emotion in their images and this is how I thought it had to be covered. Bored to tears with the thought of covering more weddings I went back to covering sports and became a reasonably good sports photographer.
Fast forward a decade to last year and I was approached by Lindsay and Bruce to cover their wedding at Murrayshall. I said yes thinking this may be a chance to use all the skills I have gained to good use and really set out to try and give them something unique for their special day. Surprise, surprise I enjoyed it and realised wedding photography didn’t have to be shot the same way I used to. Since Lindsay and Bruce’s wedding I have shot 3 more with a 4th coming up in a fortnight.
Now I had to remarket myself as a wedding/portrait as well as press photographer. Lots of people in Perth new me as a photographer but these were in the football, rugby etc circles which is mainly dominated by men and when is the last time a man organised a wedding and had a final say on the wedding photographer. I had to get the females in Perth to know about me.
I decided to start with the internet – redesign my website (currently work in progress) use twitter and facebook to network and create a facebook page to bring encourage people to see my work.

This has been a success so far and hopefully will continue to grow as I try and get my name out there.
Second phase is some direct marketing in the form of leaflet (postcards) drop targeting homes and businesses in an attempt to make more people aware of me and more importantly hire me.

These arrive next week and if you live in Perth or surrounding areas and would like to help me in my quest by taking some to work to leave in the staff room etc drop me a message with your address and I will send them.
The main aim of this is to go full time in 2010, so hopefully this strategy works.
Wedding in Pitlochry
In around three weeks I am photographing the wedding of Chrisann and Jamie in Pitlochry. They live in Dunbar but fell in love with the Perthshire town.
I shot some pre-wedding images back in April at Birnam’s Beatrix Potter garden and I am really looking forward to covering the wedding.
Wedding at bridge
Here are some quick images showing the wedding at Forth Rail Bridge before I shoot off for the reception at Castle Menzies.More images will be taken once the wedding party change into their evening wear.

What a great wedding.
On Saturday I photographed the wedding of Laila and Mark. The day went great with the only disappointment being the the minister would not allow any photographs during the service. Despite that we had wonderful weather and Laila and Mark were a great couple. Here are some images.
